Rupali was the quintessential 21st century woman. She was open and confident about her interests and her sexuality. So as a refresher course, here are seven instances that prove Rupali (Sushmita) was the best character in the film, who got the raw end of the deal. Yet, she was shamed as the home-wrecker and Salman was let off the hook without any consequences. Now, we don’t have to spell out what was so wrong in this film, but out of everything, the one thing that irked me most was the way Sushmita’s character was treated - she was a single, working woman who was progressive, intelligent, and self-aware. She, and the rest of the family, try to paint the new girlfriend in a bad/bitchy light so that the man realises what he had before was good, and then comes back to his family, forgiven. The wife finds out and hatches a plan to win her husband back by transforming herself. The story line was nothing new - a happily married man meets a beautiful, young model, and starts having an affair. 1, starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Sushmita Sen.
